HIKE – CUSCO – AMARU – PISAQ – OLLANTAYTAMBO
After yesterday’s experience you will enjoy a mostly downhill route today with some option for hiking a little or a lot. From your hotel in Cusco or Sacred Valley, you will travel by private van to the village of Amaru were you will get acquainted with the citizenry before hiking to the once-pivotal Inca citadel of Pisaq that includes a Sun Temple, extensive terracing and water ducts. The path to the ruins passes through fields of potatoes, quinoa, wheat and other crops. As you explore the area, we will explain the significance and history of the magnificent complex. After a late lunch, anyone interested may hike through the town of Pisaq. Continue by van through the Incas Sacred Valley. You will have the opportunity to visit the wonderful Pisaq Market where native people sell their wares. It is very inexpensive and there are many different products available. Local weavers sell their weavings including beautiful Alpaca garments. Transportation back to your hotel in Cusco or Sacred Valley to spend the night. Dinner on your own. RAYAN DAY HIKE
Morning breakfast at the hotel and walk to the sacred river, and the Native Communities on the other site of the valley, after get ready to cross the Inca bridge then 20 minutes later see the Chokana site use by our ancestor to protect the town of Ollantaytambo from enemy Attacks as this Ancient place was the second most important city After Cusco in the Inca Times. One of the most incredible engineering from the old times. From here flat trail to the old Church (Ñaupa Iglesia) where our guide and shaman will perform a Ceremony to ask the spirits of this sacred mountains and the Universe to allowed us to hike the next part of the trail safe and happy Picnic Lunch prepared by our professional cook, from here walk to the Perolniyoc Water Falls and the incredible ruins above this native community name Soqma, hike back and enjoying the Pachar Canyon and the Petroglyphs along the path and some other smaller ancient site. Driver will pick us up to take us back to the hotel for a great shower and afternoon Sunset. (B, L)
CACHICATA DAY HIKE
The Cachicata Trek is an all-day rigorous hike in an area of ever-changing exquisite mountain views visited by few travelers. Its destination, an ancient quarry, offers insights into perhaps the most thought-provoking of the Inca mysteries–how this civilization was able to build its monumental structures and a 14,000-mile network of paved roads with such primitive technology and without the benefit of the wheel. Getting to Cachicata takes 3 to 4 hours. The trail crosses the Urubamba River and ascends gradually, offering stunning views of the Ollantaytambo valley below, the Vilcanota mountain range and Mount Veronica (18,745 ft.) before arriving at the Cachicata quarry. Here you’ll be able to explore where the Incas chiseled and formed the huge boulders for their buildings such as the Ollantaytambo fortress. After a picnic lunch in a spectacular setting, you’ll descend back to the Sacred Valley. For hikers and history buffs, the Cachicata trek is a stimulating way to spend an extra day in the Inca heartland and enhance the experience of a Machu Picchu or other great tours.
